D&AD: Clothing and Culture in Japan

Some examples of visual material from Japanese brands has helped me to gain a better idea of what kind of tone and message current brands and potential competitors for Ted Baker over in Japan have. I feel it's important to know what kind of tone works for what kind of clothing brand, knowing this will allow me to know what kind of tone to go with for my campaign or put a twist on what's expected altogether.

Comme Des Garcons - This experimental style is personally appealing to me and definitely interesting

I like Undefeated's slick, documentary style of communicating the clothing, taking this kind of tone for a campaign?

Nigo. Larger Than Life documentary. Following the creator of BAPE. It's clear a more edgy pop culture style is huge in Japan. Just look at his toy collection!






Cool little amateur documentaries of walking around Japan and going to the BAPE store etc. Really gives a closer look at Japan, mannerisms and what they enjoy. Bape store at 6:30




Such a cool, colourful store. Music is a huge part of the experience.




Ice Cream (BBC) Store launch in Japan.




Tokyo Rising. Following Pharrell in Tokyo with the Tokyo Earthquake aftermath (3.11) Gives a really interesting undercover look at the vibe in Tokyo.
