Global Collaboration + Design Practice : A Limitation

Posted on 15:10 by cena
The main concept for the Wimbledon project was to literally apply my discussion within my essay, regarding the ease in communication and collaboration across the world. Diffusing our tastes in design, objectives, tastes and overarching synthesis on objectives, or "styles" we adhere to.

I decided to put this into practice by collaborating across the world to apply this design style. This is where a limitation of digital communicative tools such as the Internet arise - although communication is cheap, quick and can travel across the globe with ease , a reply is not instant. It's also not as easy to pitch and discuss ideas as it is in person. In the near future, technology still is a substitute as a means of communication compared to real life. A conversation is not as efficient or as organic as in real life, when sending a message you have to wait days, weeks, or even months for a reply whereas in a face to face conversation the reply is instant so much more time-effective.

Consequently, even though I pitched a concept to potential collaborators around a month ago, the follow-up email regarding the Wimbledon project has not received the replies in the timeframe I would have wanted, adding to disorganisation and inconvenience although it's at no fault of their own as everyone has their own schedule. Resultingly, I have two collaborators, not a planned four, currently working with me on the Wimbledon project, from Barcelona and Hong Kong, which is still an incredibly exciting situation to be in and lends itself well to the concept of English, Spanish and Mandarin language layouts.
