Primary Research: Contemporary Publications

I recently went down to Village Bookstore, Leeds to look into contemporary book layouts in regards to lifestyle, and fashion as we plan to create a link between a younger, more culturally aware audience, and to also merge with a more glamorous, fashionable approach.

Looking into existing publications, layouts, typefaces, and subject themes has been incredibly helpful in narrowing down the route I want to go down. Merging contemporary culture with a new-wave of Swiss International Design objectives.

The use of striking photography and contrast between black+white and colour  is definitely an aspect taken away from journals and publications, as part of my product range is planned to be an annual, more polished magazine. Something you'd keep, read and collect with longer-lasting features. And daily programmes, breaking down more ephemeral stories and articles leading into the days play. I'm also using neon green, and white, with tints of black to progress the colour palette of the grass court and existing identity.

Again focusing on print more than smartphones and digital apps and technology, you instead can use the day programmes as a means of reading up on the daily news, when you want to read it at your own pace instead of feeling overwhelmed with an influx of information.

Use of photo spreads creates an almost documentary/lookbook aesthetic style and creates a link between fashion and individuality and Wimbledon

Overprinting onto the stock, no extra colours use can simply greyscale and halftone onto stock and be cost-effective

Modern trademarks of swiss design, overprint and use of white+primary colours. Definitely something we want to employ further
